Goring Repair & Exchange Café is a free community service to help reduce waste and increase sustainability. It is primarily for Goring and Streatley residents, but anyone is welcome to use the service as avoiding any waste wherever we can is our main aim.
The service is run entirely by enthusiastic unpaid volunteers to help repair broken products and provide opportunities for people to exchange perfectly good products which are surplus to their requirements and take away someone else’s perfectly good products in return.
The first Goring Repair Cafe event took place in April 2023 and we currently hold 6 a year. In February we launched the first Exchange event to complement the Repair event to reduce waste even further.
Repair events, which take place in the Main hall are the same format each time, with only the number of repairers present varying slightly depending on availability. To see a plan of the main hall set out for a Repair event, Click here.
Exchange events will be on the Stage, in the Bellême Room (or a combination of the two), and feature different types of items each time (eg Clothes, Toys & Games, Bikes & Buggies or Books etc).
The type of items for forthcoming events will be advertised several weeks in advance and will be stated here on this website, as well as in the Goring Gap News, Genie and social media.
Repairing and exchanging go well together as they both reduce the need for unnecessary consumption of replacement products, which helps to conserve natural, irreplaceable resources. This reduces greenhouse gas emissions produced during the manufacturing and shipping of these replacement products. So, now there are two ways people can increase sustainability in one place on the same day.
This facility is a project of the local Goring Gap Environmental Organisation, doing our bit in Goring to help save our Planet.
